Locating Data on A Local Real Estate Market Often Done In An Unreliable Manner

National TV and radio stories talk about something called the national real estate market. We are hearing about a market that does not exist.

There are 124,377,000 homes in the United States according to the most current American Housing Survey. These homes are within:

- 50 states, with
- More than 30,000 incorporated cities, and with
- An innumerable number of neighborhoods

These 124 million homes get bunched together by the media and we hear the analysis of the undifferentiated clump of homes. These national statistics are not “one size fits all.” The market in Pocatello, will be different than the market in Boulder. National statistics are not helpful.

If you want useful data, you need to find the local real estate analysis. You will want data from your specific neighborhood, not the entire state.
This data will show what drives the local market.

However, it can be difficult to locate the needed information. The media won’t tell you about such a small area. Therefore, consult a local real estate agent or someone who can get the raw data for information.

By talking to “in the market” professionals that know your backyard, you’ll get a much clearer picture of your local market — good or bad — than the national media could ever provide.

Real estate is a local market so your real estate data should be local, too.
